One of our first undertakings, this triplex was a site for sore eyes to say the least. If the walls could talk, we didn't want to hear what they had to say. But we knew that once the foundational issues were corrected, we could transform this space into a stunning and safe home for three future tenants. Located in one of Windsor's trendiest, historical neighbourhoods, we wanted to make sure our design reflected the distillery district's distinct vibe and aesthetic.

The hideaway

what we did

KITCHEN 1

We doubled the size of the kitchen by knocking down and relocating the attached bathroom. We opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room to create an open-concept space, with a dine-at peninsula and beautiful pendant lighting. New cabinets, countertops and appliances were installed and to add some drama, we painted an accent wall in a striking black-charcoal paint. The white subway tile with black grout and mix of wood and metal give the kitchen a modern, industrial vibe.

Kitchen 2

Besides moving the bathroom door so it's no longer off the kitchen, we didn't have to change much of the layout. But this kitchen needed a full makeover, badly. We kept a similar look with butcher-block countertops and a large white subway tile, but added a splash of colour with an accent wall in Evergreen Fog. The low ceiling height made it difficult for upper cabinet storage, so we opted for exposed shelves instead.

Kitchen 3

We completely changed the location of this kitchen in unit 3 to allow for a larger kitchen and a separate laundry room (the previous tenant had their fridge in the 'living/dining room'). So we started this kitchen from scratch and created optimal storage and functionality for a smaller sized kitchen.

Bathroom 1

This is one of our favourite bathroom remodels! We moved the location of the bathroom to allow for a huge bathroom and laundry area. We laid a fun patterned peel and stick tile on the floor, an accent wall with custom millwork and painted 3/4 of the wall in Evergreen Fog and the upper 1/4 in Alabaster (that neon yellow just wasn't doing it for us).

bathroom 2

This bathroom was terrifying and strange. We quickly removed the tub and shower (there was no reviving those) and changed the layout for a far more functional bathroom. We opted for a high-gloss oversized tile for the tub for a high-end look and decorated in soft grey and mixed finishes of chrome and gold.

bathroom 3

The existing bathroom functioned well but needed a lot of TLC (tip - you should never leave a shower feeling dirtier than when you entered). We replaced everything - tub/shower, toilet, vanity and floors. We kept the look light and airy for a fresh new space.

bedrooms and living rooms

All bedrooms and living rooms were updated with new electrical, drywall, paint, and flooring. One of our favourite parts of this project was giving new life to some of the existing features. We love the challenge of taking a piece of a home that is considered an eyesore and transforming it into a fabulous showpiece. When we first got the property, we all thought it was a shame that we couldn't get rid of the filthy, rusted, paint-chipped radiators. However, after a deep clean and a few coats of metallic gold spray paint, the radiators soon became everyone's favourite feature! We also painted the beam in the entrance way of one of the units, which gave it a beautiful new look.

exterior

We gave the existing siding a very good power-clean and repainted the wood shakes in 'Iron Ore'. Black shutters were added to tie in the black and new stone was put in the front yard for a clean look. We rebuilt all the porches so they now look great, are safe, and to code. New exterior lights, landscaping, and of course our signature red doors complete the look.
